Denmark and Sweden 2008 When I lived in Denmark in the early 70’s petrol was scarce – (so what’s new!) – we couldn’t travel around very far. So, now that we are retired with time on our side, even with petrol expensive rather than scarce, I was keen to take advantage of the DFDS offer for “caravans go free”, and to go even further across Denmark to Sweden.Advice from members of the forum www.touringandtenting.co.uk who had already made this journey was encouraging, even though costs to use the toll bridges were eye watering.

Over the last couple weeks I have been updating this section of the website, the main reasons being to make it easier to navigate and clearer to read with alterations to the layout and text, also various changes to how it all works and to members articles. |

FROM THE NATIONAL CARAVAN COUNCIL
Below are just a few of the reasons why buying a touring caravan or motorhome could be good for you.
1. Be kind to the environment You may think caravans are usually white – but in fact, they can be green! Emissions for a
sample 1,100 mile journey from with a family of four in a family saloon towing a small touring caravan produces only 38% (0.36 tonnes) of the C0² output of a similar distance flight, which would produce emissions of nearly a ton (0.96 tonnes). When staying in a motorhome on a touring park, the daily C0² output is around 5 kg per person, whilst in a hotel the C0² value would be between 12.5kg in the summer and 17kg in the winter*.

There was once a time when my dreams of driving through California involved either cruising in an open-topped red Chevy with surfboard in the boot and the Beach Boys blaring from a stereo, or straddling a roaring Harley-Davidson as I thundered through the Sunshine State with not a care in the world. |
